Terms of use

Using this site means accepting what follows. It is short because the site is small and because there is no account, no payment and no data held on anyone.

Your pictures stay yours

No right, licence or claim over anything you open here is asserted or acquired. The tiles are produced on your own device from your own file and are yours in exactly the way the original was. Nothing is transmitted, so there is nothing for anyone here to have rights in.

What you are responsible for

Whether you are entitled to divide, publish or distribute a particular picture is a question about that picture and the person who made it, and it is yours to answer. Use of this tool neither grants nor implies permission you did not already have.

The tool is offered as it is

There is no warranty that the site is available, that it works in a given browser, or that a given file will decode. Browsers differ in what they will read and what they will write, and the tool reports those limits when it meets them rather than pretending they do not exist. Keep the original file until you have checked the tiles: an export is a new set of files, not a replacement for the one you started with.

What it is not suitable for

This is a browser tool for ordinary pictures. It is not a records system, it is not intended for evidential, medical or archival material, and it strips metadata from the tiles by design — which is the right behaviour for a picture going onto a profile and the wrong behaviour for an image whose provenance has to be preserved. If a workflow depends on metadata surviving, this is not the tool for it.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for loss arising from use of this site, including lost or damaged files, a result that did not match what was expected, or time spent. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

These terms may be revised as the site changes. The version published here is the one that applies; continuing to use the site after a revision is acceptance of it.
